With the end of the East India Company's regime in India and the failure of the first armed uprising in 1857, for India's freedom, a new era dawned in our country. It was clear that the emancipation of our land and the transformation of the life of our people had to be brought about by peaceful and constitutional means. Indian renaissance had began and it heralded the role which education needed to play to achieve national aspirations.

The establishment of Fergusson College took place in the academic year of 1884. It was established by Deccan Education Society (DES). The college is affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University. The college has been approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The college has also been accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with grade ‘A'. It has been given an ‘Autonomous' status. The college is mainly known for offering the courses in the field of Arts and Science. This public educational institution offers programs at the Undergraduate and Postgraduate level. The infrastructure of the college is spread over an area of 65 acres. The college is basically known for its age-old architecture and humongous campus providing all the basic amenities. The campus of Fergusson College is comprised of 21 buildings.

Fergusson College Courses include programs at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate level. These programs are offered under several specialisations. The candidates can choose the programs as per their interest. Besides these undergraduate and postgraduate programs, the college also provides certificate courses. These certificate courses include Women Development, Counselling Psychology, Photography, German Language, Spanish Language, and American Studies.

The college strives to provide excellence in education and prepare the students for imbibing knowledge and skills. Below mentioned are some of the distinctive features of the college:

  • The college has a sufficient number of classrooms with well-ventilated spacious arrangements.

  • Science departments have separate buildings and laboratories for general as well as research programs. There are 52 laboratories for general and 15 laboratories for research programs.

  • Special research facilities include Central Instrumentation laboratory which has high-end equipment like Atomic Spectrophotometer, High-performance Liquid Chromatography, UV-visible Spectrophotometer and many more.

  • The college played a proactive role in grooming students with specific spaces for extra-curricular activities. Sports equipment have been added with a separate gymnasium for both girls and boys.

  • Fergusson College has one of the oldest libraries across the state. With changing times, the library has been modified in terms of infrastructure and services.

  • It also has separate hostel facilities for both boys and girls with all the basic amenities. There is also a visiting doctor at the girls’ hostel which has basic medical facilities.

Fergusson College UG Admission

At the UG level, Fergusson College offers BA, BSc and B.Voc courses in 15, 13 and two specialisations, respectively. Admission to these courses is given on the basis of merit scores in the qualifying exam of Class 12.
